The 'Mean Girls' star was dropped from the biopic due to insurance issues.
"I'm really excited to the do the film," E! Online quoted her as saying at the Tribeca Film Fest.
"I think it's gonna be an amazing journey," she said.
"I've been studying a lot about battered women and we all have that big question mark as to why they stay in the relationship and why they don't leave and it's so complex," Malin explained.
"I've been reading a lot on the internet...Google is a fantastic thing," she added.
