Objectionable dialogue removed from Dum Maaro Dum

The Goa State Women's Commission has a reason to cheer. The ministry of information and broadcasting has got the producer of Dum Maaro Dum, Ramesh Sippy Entertainment, to get an "objectionable" dialogue referring to women from Goa removed from the film and its promotions. 


Directed by Rohan Sippy, the film starring Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Prateik and Rana Daggubati is set in Goa and revolves around how the police tackle the drugs and sex syndicate.

The commission's chairperson, Edzila Sapeco, had filed a complaint with the local police against the producer for making derogatory remarks against Goan women. Following Sapeco's complaint, state Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik wrote a letter to union minister for information and broadcasting Ambika Soni requesting the central government to ban the film under section 6 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952.

An official spokesperson for the Sippys told a news daily that they were made aware about some women's organisations who had complained about a dialogue in Dum Maaro Dum's trailers, which they found offensive to women.

The spokesperson added that as responsible filmmakers, they have changed the same to address their concerns.

Dum Maaro Dum, which has been cleared with an 'A' certificate, will release on 22 April 2011.
