Daniel Radcliffe, star of the “Harry Potter” film franchise, has been announced as the recipient of the Trevor Project’s Hero Award, it was revealed. The organization works to provide crisis support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youths. Radcliffe has been involved with Trevor Project since 2009, when he began appearing in PSAs, THR reports.
“Out of everything that I’ve done so far in my career, I think this is absolutely one of the most important, if not the most important, thing that I’m associated with,” he said. “It’s fantastic. The fact that they think of what I’ve done by promoting awareness of the Trevor Project itself and the issues that it works to promote and help is a great honor.”
Radcliffe joins previous Trevor Hero Award recipients Nathan Lane, Vanessa Williams and Dustin Lance Black, Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Milk.”
Radcliffe will be honored at a ceremony in New York in June. The actor currently is in Manhattan for the Broadway production of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” He’ll also headline the eighth and final “Harry Potter” film when it opens in July.
