Quentin Tarantino wants Will Smith for “Django” western?

The script for Quentin Tarantino’s next film has been making the rounds, and now we’re hearing about a major A-lister the director reportedly wants for his lead.

Tarantino plans to make a Western … but not just any Western. He’d like to resurrect the character of Django – an anti-hero played by the great Franco Nero in multiple Spaghetti Westerns – and cast him in a story tentatively titled “Django Unchained.” Those who’ve read the script say Tarantino is imagining Django as a freed slave who embarks on a journey to reunite with his slave wife … and he administers some ice-cold justice to Southern slave owners along the way.
Considering what Tarantino did to the Nazis in “Inglourious Basterds,” are you really surprised?
What is a little shocking is that Tarantino’s close to signing Will Smith for the lead role, according to reports. Smith’s currently filming the third “Men In Black,” which could delay Tarantino’s film, though we’re not sure when he plans to start. Others speculated that the role would be perfect for Samuel L. Jackson, who is a regular in Tarantino’s universe.
