She earned her collegiate at St.Josephs College of Commerce, in Bangalore. Ramya participated in stage shows and dance rehearsals from her grade school days.
Ramya stepped into the film industry with the Kannada movie " Abhi" starring Puneet Rajkumar. Her latest hit "Arrasu" also starring Puneet Rajkumar and Meera Jasmine released in early 2007 is expected to do well. She is considered to be "golden girl" in Kannada film industry becuase she has the success rate of close to 80% in her career.
Her latest flick "Amruthadhare",directed by Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar, shows her amazing acting skills. Ramya resides at The Taj West End in Bangalore, with her adopted father.Ramya, the bold and dashing girl, is just back from Singapore where she is celebrated her father’s birthday. ‘I am extremely lucky” says the upcoming actress at a party to celebrate the success of ‘Gowramma’.
We believe you had a tough time in Ladak shooting for ‘Amruthadhare’?
If I had not got oxygen within three minutes I would have collapsed. I was rushed to the hospital by director Nagathiji and cameraman Krishnakumar. We were shooting at a height of almost 19000 feet! After three days in hospital, I reported back on the sets to complete my portion.
You look beautiful after that recent nose surgery?
Its not because of that… It was a small cosmetic surgery done at Appolo hospital. Actually I have lost weightand every says that I look better now.
How is ‘Gowramma’ with Upendra faring?
It was a very challenging experience for me to act opposite Upendra. He has so hardworking and committed and trust me he had written two songs Sona Sona…., and Kolthallalloppo…... A painting was done especially for this film on how I would at the age of 70! The film is a huge hit.
There is a complaint, that you are very arrogant?
I am not arrogant. I never asked the media to write good things about me. I am straight forward and maybe that has been interpreted in this way. Can I help it? I don’t have the habit of pleasing anyone.
You are a very lucky heroine. Please comment?
(Laughs)I think that I am the most successful heroine. All my films in Kannada have crossed 50 days to silver jubilee. Abhi, Excuse Me, Kanti, Ranga SSLC, Adhi, Gowramma are all successful.
Have you raised your salary?
When these people can give Rs.20 to 25 Lakhs and bringin Reemma Sen, whycan’t they pay more to Kannada heroines who are successful.
What are your next films?
After ‘Amrutha Dhare’ I want rest for a few months. I have not accepted any film as of now. I want to go for a holiday and be with my dad.
You have acted with the Big- B in ‘Amrutha Dhare’?
I am not supposed to talk anything about it. After that news of Big-B acting in Kannada was leaked, a newspaper wrote that I had disclosed the secret to media. But at that time I was not well and back in Bangalore and my nose was plastered for sometime. With all this how can I leak the information? But let me tell you that it is a truth that I have acted with Amitabh Bachchanji.
What are your acting strengths?
I feel I am better than Rakshitha in emotional scenes but she is good at dance and comedy. You know, people cried when they see me cry in ‘Amrithadhaare’ but that don’t happy when Rakshitha does emotional scenes.
Rakshitha recently spelled out that Ramya made her wait for three long hours during the shooting of their film. What is their reaction on the report?
I am sorry for the incident, as circumstances demanded it. But don’t stars make people wait?
You and Rakshitha refused to act in ‘Tananam Tananam’ earlier when director Kavitha Lankesh approached them but gave the nod later. What is the reason behind?
The cast of the film was not finalized when I first read the script. Urmila or Sushmita Sen was supposed to play the other role but they could not do, as Urmila was busy with other projects while Sushmita is too tall for the character. This is why Rakshitha stepped in. I demanded higher remuneration, knowing that the market value would increase owing to the star cast. The producer agreed to my demand and I gave the nod too.
