Bindaas babe Rakhi Sawant is back on TV as a participant in Comedy Circus Jubilee on Sony. Though this is her first attempt at comedy, she is enjoying herself and the reactions flowing in. The actress, who is no stranger to controversies, clarifies some and creates others. Here is Rakhi talking seriously about comedy.
What lured you to participate in Comedy Circus Jubilee?
Vipul Shah, the producer of Comedy Circus, approached me to participate in the show but I explained that I already had prior commitments. However, after I found out that the show required two days a month, I decided to go ahead. The show is very interesting and engaging. I like Archana who is very competent as a judge. However, I don’t like Tusshar Kapoor. I feel that he should be replaced as he doesn’t laugh at any jokes. Rohit Shetty was a much better judge.
Did you find comedy tough to do?
Comedy is tough anyway but here it is a bigger challenge as there are no retakes. My partners Krushna and Rajiv help and advise me a lot. They have a golden rule, one must just forget everything and do dhamaal on the stage. After the first few episodes, I don’t feel like I am attempting a new genre and although I don’t get enough time to rehearse my acts due to my busy schedule, I feel like a veteran already.
How is your rapport with Krushna Abhishek and Rajiv Nigam?
My rapport with them is very good. We get along well. And since they are experienced comedians, I welcome their help and guidance. Krushna and Rajiv taught me about variations in comedy. Initially, I was unaware that I had to stop when the audience is laughing and then continue my act. They are the ones who explained these basic things to me.
Were you nervous before your first act?
Yes, I was nervous because I kept forgetting my dialogues.
How have the reactions been to your performances?
I have been getting good reactions from my fans. Even Archana is very appreciative but it is only Tusshar who does not laugh - no matter how funny the act is. I don’t understand him.
Recently Mika came on the show as a guest judge. How did it feel performing in front of him after your animosity?
Mika’s presence did not matter to me because I am confident and can perform in front of anyone.
What is the progress on your show about Jesus Christ?
I have not yet got a channel on board for my show but when God wills, he will give me a go ahead and my show will definitely go on floors. I am praying it happens soon.
Recently a Baba accused you of molesting him on a show on India TV? What do you have to say about it?
I do not want to say anything about people who are using my name for cheap publicity.
